Kamen del is a peak on Vitosha Mountain in Bulgaria rising to 1862 meters. A few people know that Kamen del is a peak which you can see from every place of Sofia. And the other nice thing is that from there you can see the entire city.

I haven’t been on Kamen del peak until I met him. I also haven’t even known that the peak I have seen every single day when I look at Vitosha is exactly Kamen del.
It was a cold winter day when I visited it for the first time. We decided to go there to take some pictures of night Sofia.

We drove nearby Aleko hut, left the car and started walking. If you start from Aleko you need to go through the woods before reaching the trail to the top. Actually, at the beginning, the route is the same as the one to Black peak. You need to walk over 10 minutes and then you have to turn right to take the path to Kamen del. You have to be careful to take this path but it is ok if you miss it. After 100-150 meters walk there is a sign which will help you to find the right way. The entire length of the path is over 3.6 km.
The route to Kamen del peak is nice and easy.
You can enjoy the beauty nature and landscape that unfolds before your eyes. There is slight slope right before you get to the peak but it isn’t scary or hard. All the time you are walking along the soft trail.
Highway to heaven
The last 20 meters are rocky with a large slope. You need to look out there because some of the stones are unstable.
So you are walking over an hour. Of course, it depends on your rate but for an hour or two, you will get to the peak.
When you get there you will become speechless. The beauty that you will see is stunning. That is one of the places where the peace reigns. If you are there on quite a weather you will be able to hear the noise of the city. That sound you just can’t imagine if you didn’t hear it.
Kamen del is one of the places where I can just sit and peer. That is the place where the Earth and the sky meet. Where you can see all the city and not only. You can enjoy the gorgeous sunrises and the magnificent sunsets. Maybe you have already known that we are addicted to that two phenomena. I’m not as much as him but it doesn’t even matter because I will follow him to the end of the world and back if he wants it.

And let’s go back on topic. If you have some free time and you want to make some walks in the nature Kamen del is your place. You can go there in the morning or in the evening – it doesn’t matter there always have something to see. The way back to Aleko is about an hour. So if you have decided to stay for sunset you need to take headlamp – just in case. In all other cases, you just need to have sоme warm clothes. Vitosha Mountain is unpredictable and windy mountain so you might be careful.
